30 valuable paintings were confiscated from the yacht of the russian oligarch Usmanov
German police confiscated 30 expensive paintings after searching the yacht of sanctioned russian oligarch Alisher Usmanov.
According to preliminary data, the total value of the paintings is 5 million euros, according to a joint investigation by NDR, WDR and Suddeutsche Zeitung.
The paintings were on board the yacht and were preserved when the vessel arrived in the port of Hamburg for repairs in late 2021.
Among the canvases found are the works of the Belarusian and French expressionist artist Marc Chagall.
Usmanov’s representative stated that the found paintings allegedly do not belong to the oligarch, so “there was no need to report them to the German authorities.”
The Munich prosecutor’s office is currently investigating Usmanov. The oligarch is suspected of tax evasion. Also, the General Prosecutor’s Office of Frankfurt am Main is investigating Usmanov’s suspicion of money laundering.
