An illegal shipment of uranium worth $2 million was discovered in a port on the Black sea
A container with an illegal cargo of uranium worth $2 million was discovered in the Georgian port of Poti.
The man who tried to take out the uranium was detained. He faces 5 to 10 years in prison, the State Security Service of Georgia said.
Currently, the investigation does not disclose the identity of the detainee and other details.
“According to the conclusion of the radiological examination, the substance seized during the search contains the radioactive substance uranium and belongs to the category of nuclear materials,” the agency said in a statement.
The investigation is being conducted under part one of Article 230 of the Criminal Code of Georgia — “illegal handling of radioactive substances.”
