The UN is negotiating in Moscow to extend the Grain Agreement
Secretary General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development Rebecca Greenspan is negotiating with high-ranking officials in Moscow regarding the extension of the grain agreement.
This was announced by the Deputy Spokesman of the UN Secretary General, Farhan Gak, at a press briefing on Friday. According to Ukrinform the spokesperson noted that Greenspan met on Friday with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Vershinin. According to Gak, the parties are discussing the terms of “full implementation of the agreement.”
It also became known earlier that on May 5, representatives of Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the UN at the SCC failed to reach an agreement on the continuation of Ukrainian grain exports from Black Sea ports.
As reported by Gak, the UN Secretary-General submitted to all parties a proposal for further actions “aimed at improving and expanding the Grain Initiative, taking into account the positions expressed by the parties.”
“We encourage all parties to continue discussions, overcome operational challenges and work towards the full implementation and continuation of the initiative,” the spokesperson said.
According to the spokesman of the UN Secretary General, daily inspections of previously authorized ships are ongoing.
