The bed of the Kakhovskyi Canal is drying up
Due to the actions of the Russians, the channel of the Kakhovskyi main canal is drying up. This could lead to an environmental disaster.
The bed of the Kakhovskyi Canal is drying up, which may lead to an ecological disaster. Currently, water is available only in certain areas of the Zaporizhzhia region. This was reported by journalist Oleg Baturyn.
We will remind you that in mid-April, the rashists completely flooded the main pumping station of the Main Kakhovskyi Main Canal. The flooding of the pumping station began at the end of November — after Russian shelling damaged the sealing of the structure.
The Kakhovskyi trunk canal is an artificial 130-kilometer canal built in 1979 for irrigation of agricultural land and water supply to settlements. The channel originates from the Kakhovskyi Reservoir.
There is also a shipping lock on the territory of the Kakhovskyi hydraulic junction. It is necessary for vessels to overcome the difference in water levels in the dam of the Kakhovska HPP. The seizure of the lock by Russian terrorists completely blocks shipping at the mouth of the Dnipro.
Previously, USM wrote that the risk of a drop in the water level in the Kakhovskyi Reservoir remains high.
