Environmental consequences and pollution due to the explosion of the Kakhovska HPP may affect not only Ukraine, but also other states on the Black Sea. In particular, it is about Bulgaria, Romania and Turkey.
“As a result of the fact that hundreds of tons of machine oil got into the Dnipro, which will later get into the waters of the Black Sea, these consequences will be felt not only in Ukraine, but also in other Black Sea countries. For example, Romania, since the current moves from the Dnipro-Buzka estuary towards Odesa and beyond,” said ecologist Vladyslav Balinskyi during a briefing at Ukraine Media Center Odesa.
He also added that engine oil is only a small part of what will end up in the Black Sea as a result of the Russian terrorist attack.

“First of all, fears are caused by toxic sludge that has accumulated over the years at the bottom of the Kakhovsky reservoir. They will be picked up by the current, and they will be washed into the sea. In general, the floating system cleans and traps all heavy metals and chemical pollutants. Now the water will wash it into the Black Sea, the entire coast will experience large-scale pollution. This alongshore current washes the Gulf of Odesa, Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey,” explained ecologist Vladyslav Balinsky.
