UZ reduced grain transportation in May by 33%
In May, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 1.836 million tons of grain cargo, which is 33% less than a month earlier.
In general, UZ exported 1.147 million tons of grain in May, transported 683 thousand tons domestically. The average daily load was 44,000 tons, said Valery Tkachev, deputy director of the Department of Commercial Work of the University of Warsaw.
“Two factors affected the reduction in transportation: the blocking by the aggressor of the work of the Grain Agreement, which affected the delivery of goods by rail to the ports, as well as the blocking of exports through solidarity corridors by European countries, which led to a halving of transshipment of goods through the western borders of Ukraine,” Tkachev explained.
He added that UZ is ready to increase transportation, for which it has enough resources.
Tkachev also reported that as of June 8, 2,663 wagons with grain cargoes are moving in the direction of the ports of Great Odesa. The average daily unloading in June is 493 wagons with grain. The waiting time for unloading is 4.9 days.
At the moment, 1,656 wagons with grain loads are heading to the port of Izmail. Since May 29, the queue has decreased by 23.48%. The average daily unloading for June was 122 wagons with grain. The waiting time for unloading reaches 11.3 days.
“The work of the “grain corridor” is currently difficult to predict, the aggressor country constantly changes the number of inspections of vessels and puts forward various demands, in addition, the work of the South port is blocked. The situation in the port of Izmail remains difficult due to a large concentration of wagons. The loading in the direction of the port is planned taking into account the processing capacities of the recipients/operators, but due to weather conditions, they unload significantly less than the planned volume,” the UZ summarized.
