UGA told how to increase Ukrainian shipments of grain to the port of Reni
The restoration of railway transit from the north of Moldova to the port of Reni would help increase Ukrainian transit of agricultural products to the port of Reni.
The unification of Moldovan railway tariffs with Ukrainian ones would also help, said UGA Executive Director Serhiy Ivashchenko, writes Elevatorist.
“In order for railway logistics of Ukrainian grain to the Danube ports, in particular the port of Reni, to be effective and efficient, it is necessary to unify the tariffs of the Moldovan railway with the Ukrainian ones. Currently, tariffs in Moldova are significantly higher than Ukrainian tariffs, which makes such transit economically unattractive. The reduction of the tariff by Moldova would give an increase in transit to the Moldovan railway and thus increase revenues. For Ukraine, this will allow grain to be sent to the port of Reni by rail, while currently grain is transported to it only by road,” Serhiy Ivashchenko noted.
According to him, it is important for Ukraine to ensure the railway tariff at such a level that the delivery to the ports of Great Odesa and the Danube ports is commensurate despite the longer delivery arm.
This will give an impetus to the development of infrastructure at the Danube ports and improve the economic security of Ukraine.
Ivashchenko also emphasized that it is necessary to determine the raid transshipment in the Romanian territorial waters of the Black Sea for barges with Ukrainian grain from the ports of Ust-Dunaisk, Izmail and Reni. Such a move would provide operational efficiency for the Danube ports and would allow the transshipment of grain to be roughly doubled.
