The former CEO of Google bought a confiscated yacht of a sanctioned Russian
The former CEO of Google Eric Schmidt bought at an auction the superyacht “Alpha Nero”, confiscated from the Russian billionaire Alexander Guryev.
Schmidt got the yacht for $67.6 million, reports Ukrinform. The United States authorities claimed that Guryev bought the yacht in 2014 for $120 million. He said he was only renting it.
The 81-meter yacht has been in Antigua and Barbuda since February 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In March 2023, the island nation’s authorities said they would sell her if her owner could not be found.
At the end of August 2022, the Axiom superyacht, which has been linked to the sanctioned Russian billionaire Dmitry Pumpyansky, was sold at an auction in Gibraltar. The vessel was valued at $75 million. The amount of the purchase and the name of the buyer were not disclosed.
