Guterres: The grain agreement must be extended
UN Secretary General António Guterres called for the continuation of the Black Sea Initiative.
Russia’s blocking of the Grain Agreement threatens global food security. The Secretary General of the UN calls on the parties to speed up the operations and insistently asks “to make every effort to ensure the continuation of this vital agreement, which expires on July 17,” writes Ukrinform.
“Food exports through the Maritime Humanitarian Corridor have significantly decreased from a peak of 4.2 million tons in October 2022 to 1.3 million tons in May, which is the lowest figure since the initiative was launched,” noted Deputy Spokesman of the Secretary General Farhan Gak.
Previously, USM wrote that due to Russia’s position in the SCC, the Grain initiative is operating at less than 20% of its normal throughput.
