Ukraine has stopped recognizing diplomas of North Korean sailors

The Shipping Administration announced the termination of the Memorandum of Understanding between Ukraine and North Korea on the recognition of sailors’ diplomas (certificates).

The memorandum was terminated “in view of the collapse of interstate relations between Ukraine and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, as well as due to the latter’s support for the latest full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, said the head of the Shipping Administration Yevgeny Ignatenko.

“The State Service of Maritime and Inland Water Transport and Shipping of Ukraine initiated the termination of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Transport of Ukraine and the Bureau of Maritime Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on the recognition of diplomas (certificates) of seafarers in accordance with the requirements of Rule I/10 of the 1978 International Convention on Maritime and Maritime Affairs , with amendments of 1995,” Ignatenko noted.

The memorandum on mutual recognition of diplomas of sailors of Ukraine and the DPRK was concluded in August 2002.
