UDS began mooring trials of the bulk carrier “Vilkovo”

The Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company launched the sea vessel “Vilkovo” for mooring tests and commissioning.

“Vilkovo” is the first of the sea vessels to be repaired under the program for the development and restoration of maritime transport, the UDS reported.

More than ten years ago, under the previous leadership of the UDS, the sea vessels of the steamship were transferred to charter. As the experience of state shipping companies shows, the fleet, as a rule, did not return from such a charter. But “Vilkovo” managed to return.

The bulker was in an unsatisfactory condition, so it had to be repaired first.

The ship was repaired in May of this year. During the works, the following were performed:

• repair of the main engine,

• repair of the ballast-draining system with the replacement of 90% of the pipeline, hydraulics,

• installation of a ballast water purification system,

• repair of anchor and mooring equipment,

• hull repair,

• painting and others.

The testing phase is currently underway. The UDS plans to install hydraulic cylinders, check hatch covers for flowability, tightness, and ultrasonic control.

On the ship’s mechanisms, they will perform a check of the operation of the ballast-draining system after assembly and welding work, start the main engine and check the diesel generators under load.

The UDS hopes that the modernized vessel will be operational already in August.

Certificate. “Vilkovo” is the fifth in a series of ships built to order of UDS at the Portuguese shipyard Viana do Castelo (“Ishmail” type). This is a universal dry cargo vessel, designed for the transportation of general, bulk cargoes of various nomenclature, grain, containers.
