Tariffs for the delivery of grain from Ukraine to Romania have doubled

This year, the price for sending new crop grain from Izmail to Constanta may cost €30 per ton.

Since the beginning of the full-scale war, the tariffs for the delivery of grain from Izmail to Constanta have doubled.

“Farmers and carriers have started buying up the old fleet in the Netherlands and other European countries because they hope to make money. And the market immediately reacted with growth,” said an interlocutor of Economic Truth  from a company involved in river transportation.

According to him, a sea vessel with a carrying capacity of about 3,000 tons cost €500-700,000 three years ago, and now it costs about €1.5 million.

A river convoy consisting of a tugboat and two barges with a carrying capacity of about 4,000 tons used to cost €750,000-800,000, now it costs €1.5-1.7 million.

Before the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the cost of transporting grain on the Danube from Izmail to Constanta was €12-15 per ton.

In 2022, during the booming demand, the tariff reached €40-50 per ton, then gradually decreased to the level of €20-25 per ton.

Rates are expected to rise to €30 for the new crop.
