A regular sea line was launched between Batumi and Novorossiysk

The Armenian liner operator ASC has launched a sea service between the ports of Georgia and Russia for the delivery of Armenian cargo.

The Armenian shipping company (ASC) has launched a regular sea line between the port of Batumi (Georgia) and the port of Novorossiysk (Russia), reports rosZMI with reference to the director of ASC Davyd Iloyan.

He said that shippers will be able to deliver Armenian goods on the new route at the expense of state subsidies allocated by the government of Armenia.

As part of the new service, a universal vessel will call once a week at the port of Batumi and at the “Novorosliexport” terminal at the port of Novorossiysk (part of the NMTP group). Travel time one way is 1 day. The company plans to deliver 600 to 800 TEUs per month.

ASC also organizes the delivery of goods from Yerevan (Armenia) to Batumi (Georgia), as well as from the port of Novorossiysk to the capital of the Russian Federation. The shipper will pay only for the land part of the route.

The cost of the sea line is covered by subsidies allocated by the government of Armenia within the framework of the program to create an alternative route connecting Armenia and Russia. According to Iloyan, the purpose of the program is to relieve the infrastructure of the only land crossing point that connects Armenia and Georgia with the Russian Federation – Verkhniy Lars.

ASC also hopes to establish a sea line “in the near future” to transport Armenian cargo to Europe. The company also plans to send ships through the Batumi port, using state subsidies.
