The Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Russia’s provocation in the Black Sea
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemned the shelling of a Turkish ship by the Russian Federation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemns the attack by the Russian military on a civilian Turkish cargo ship on August 13.
“The Russian Navy grossly violated the UN Charter, the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and other norms of international law. Such actions became another example of Russia’s purposeful policy of creating threats to the freedom of navigation and the security of commercial shipping in the Black Sea,” the statement reads.
The department expressed solidarity with Turkey and called on the international community to take decisive measures to prevent Russian provocations.
“Russia should be deprived of the opportunity to block international routes in the Black Sea, in particular to Ukrainian seaports. In this regard, Ukraine calls on partners to strengthen efforts to preserve the operation of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, which plays a key role in ensuring global food security,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized.
It will be recalled that on August 13, the Russian ship “Vasily Bykov” demanded that the dry cargo “Shyukryu Okan” stop for inspection. After the captain refused, the Russians opened fire on the ship. According to the report, “Shyukryu Okan” was on its way to the Ukrainian port of Izmail.
