In Russia a barge with a dangerous cargo was lost due to a storm
The tug Solombalets 3 lost a barge in the southeastern part of the Barents Sea due to a storm.
The incident took place on November 2. The barge with 350 tons of fuel was intended for residents on the island of Kolguiev to ensure the operation of electric generators in winter. The towline has broken, the barge is currently drifting somewhere between the island and the mainland.
As Fleetmon writes, it is likely that the barge has already been found, but adverse weather conditions are preventing attempts to return it to tow.
“The barge poses a hazard in its own right due to its cargo and navigational hazards because of the heavy vessel traffic in the area,” Fleetmon wrote.
