Contraband cigarettes worth UAH 32 million were seized in the port of Reni

Law enforcement officers seized 400,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes from Pakistan in the port of Renia.

A cigarette smuggling scheme from Pakistan was eliminated in Reni. Law enforcement officers seized 400,000 packs of tobacco products worth UAH 32 million. This was reported in the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.

“A container with cigarettes arrived on a ship from the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to the Reni Sea Trade Port. Documents for customs clearance of excise goods were not submitted to the customs authorities. During the inspection of the container, more than 400,000 packs of foreign-made cigarettes without excise stamps were discovered and seized. The value of the confiscated products is approximately UAH 32 million,” the agency reported.

Law enforcement officers have started an investigation into the fact of illegal importation, storage and sale of excise goods. The prosecutors sent a petition to the court to seize the confiscated property. Currently, all the circumstances of the criminal activity and the circle of involved persons are being established.
