The EU plans to detect illegal transshipment of Russian oil

The EU will strengthen the exchange of information to detect tankers carrying Russian oil ship-to-ship.

EU countries will strengthen monitoring and exchange of data on tankers to identify those transferring Russian oil ship-to-ship. This is stated in the message of the EU Council  regarding the 12th package of sanctions against the Russian Federation.

It is also planned to reveal the facts of AIS data manipulation during the transportation of Russian oil and oil products.

In particular, the Council of the EU established rules on the notification of the sale of tankers to any third country to make their sale “transparent”. In this way, they want to avoid cases where old tankers would be used in price cap circumvention schemes.
