Military personnel inspect the magnetic anomalies in the sea with a drone before further demining.
The Ukrainian military uses a specialized UAV to search for Russian mines in the Black Sea. This was reported in the press service of the Defense Forces of Southern Ukraine.
So, in the last two weeks, the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine surveyed more than 40 hectares of water area. The unmanned aerial vehicle V2MAG, transferred by the Kingdom of Denmark last year, is used for reconnaissance.
The drone is equipped with a magnetometer and a ground control station. This allows it to detect magnetic anomalies and magnetized foreign objects at a depth of up to 10 meters.
After scanning the territory, specialized software creates a map of magnetic anomalies. After its analysis, the military receives the coordinates of potential explosive objects.
Modern UAVs for the technical survey of territories before demining have already proven themselves effectively during the survey of agricultural lands in de-occupied territories.
“Difficulties in work arise due to adverse weather conditions: rain, fog, wind, waves on the water. Therefore, every “exit” is like a quest. But for almost a year of working with the system, we have already not only studied it, but also know its intricacies,” said the commander of the military crew, senior lieutenant Yaroslav Dubnevich.
The military emphasized that the system is extremely effective. Moreover, water does not fade and gives a smaller error than on land.
Previously, USM wrote that Germany handed Ukraine a new anti-sea mine system.
At the same time, Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkey may start demining the Black Sea already in the spring.
