Ukraine exported 3 million tons of iron ore per month
Ukraine significantly increased the volume of export transportation of MMC products by maritime corridor.
Thus, MMC products are the second most important in total exports via the sea corridor, GMK Center reports.
In August-December 2023, at least 46 ships left the ports of Odesa and Pivdennyi with MMC cargo. These are 17 bulk carriers with 2.6 million tons of iron ore, as well as 29 – with 653 thousand tons of metal products.
Among the vessels are “Primus”, “Anna Theresa”, “Ocean Courtesy” and “Puma”, which have been blocked in Ukrainian ports since February 24, 2022.
The number of ship departures with export products also increased – from 4 in August-September to 22 in December.
In particular, in December, 13 ships with 157.5 thousand tons of metal products left the Odesa port, 8 bulkers with 1.29 million tons of iron ore and one ship with 50 thousand tons of steel products left the South port.
In January, the export of iron ore in Ukraine exceeded 3 million tons, which is 90% more than in previous months, economist Oleksiy Blinov reported.
A significant increase in exports in January is associated with the expansion of the maritime corridor due to the clearing of the Black Sea from enemy forces.
Previously, USM reported that the first ships with metal left the temporary maritime corridor in September, and in November the overall increase in maritime exports was recorded by 70%.
