On Wednesday, February 21, the state flag was raised on the pilot boat “Lotsman Surin”.

The state flag was raised on a pilot boat, which was handed over by French partners, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority reported.

Head of State Enterprise “USPA” Yuriy Lytvyn recalled that on November 8, 2023, as a result of a Russian attack on the civil infrastructure of the “Pivdennyi” port, a first-class pilot, a highly qualified and experienced specialist in his field Serhii Surin, died while performing his duties.

The staff of the “Delta-Pilot” branch took the initiative to rename the boat received from French colleagues in honor of the fallen comrade.

“From this day on, no matter in which water area of Ukrainian ports the boat operates, the name of pilot Surin will always be heard on the air,” added Oleksandr Holodnytskyi, head of the Delta-Pilot branch.

Yuriy Lytvyn handed over to the family of the deceased a photo of the boat and commemorative documents of the Shipping Administration, about the assignment of the pilot boat named after S. Surin

For his dedication to the cause, courage in the performance of tasks, by Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 16/2024 Surin Serhiy was awarded the Order “For Courage” of the III degree, posthumously.

It will be recalled that on November 8, the invaders attacked the port infrastructure of Odesa region with an X-31P missile. The projectile hit a Liberian-flagged bulk carrier as the vessel entered port.
