Lithuania calls for adoption of a grain ban from the Russian Federation at the EU level
In order for the ban on Russian grain not to contradict European legislation, it must be adopted at the EU level.
The proposal to ban the transit of agricultural products from the Russian Federation and Belarus must be agreed at the EU level. Otherwise, it will contradict the European legislation, said the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrid Šimonite, writes “European Truth”.
According to Shimonite, the situation with grain transit will be much more complicated. This is due to the fact that the restriction of food supplies to third countries, in particular, to the Global South, means increased tensions in the EU regarding the security of food supplies.
As USM recently wrote, Poland will ask the European Commission to block grain imports from Russia and Belarus.
Previously, USM wrote that Lithuania has completely banned the import of Russian LNG.
