The Bulgarian Navy used a minesweeper to destroy a sea mine
The Bulgarian Navy used the Tripartite-class Struma minesweeper to destroy a sea mine near Varna.
A sea anchor mine of the “YAM” type was discovered 250 meters from the shore, the Bulgarian Navy reported.
A mine countermeasure ship was quickly mobilized to the site to eliminate the threat.
The mine was pulled to a safe distance and destroyed by a controlled explosion with the help of the minesweeper “Struma”.
It is known that this minesweeper fleet of Bulgaria received from the Netherlands in 2020. Then the minesweeper “Mesta” was also handed over.
The value of the deal was 2.395 million euros, another 2 million euros were spent on de-canning and delivery of the vessels to Bulgaria.
As a reminder, demining of the Black Sea can begin already in the spring.
