UZ transported a record 44.7 million tons of cargo in the first quarter

The increase in export transportation by railway is associated with the stable operation of the maritime corridor and ports of Ukraine.

According to the results of the first quarter of 2024, JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” transported 44.69 million tons of cargo – 28.7% more than last year. This was reported by Valerii Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Work of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”.

“This is 9.96 million tons more than in the first quarter of 2023). It is also a record indicator of the volume of cargo transportation per quarter by railway during wartime,” Valerii Tkachev noted.

Out of this volume, 23.39 million tons of cargo were transported in export traffic — by 50.6% more than in the same period last year. It was also the highest since the start of a full-scale invasion.

Tkachev noted that the reason for the significant increase in export shipments was the effective operation of the Ukrainian corridor through the ports of Great Odesa and the recovery of Ukraine’s economy in general.
