Greece’s naval exercises are becoming an obstacle to the illegal trade in Russian oil

The Greek Navy conducts exercises in the area of the Laconian Gulf, where previously Russian oil was regularly transferred from ship to ship.

In order to prevent the transportation of Russian oil from ship to ship, the Greek Navy extended a warning prohibiting the movement of ships near the coast of the southeastern Peloponnese.
According to Andrii Klymenko, Russian crude oil is being transshipped in the Laconian Bay – up to 1 million tons per month from the Black Sea and the same amount from the Baltic Sea. After that, the oil is transported to various countries in violation of the embargo.
“Greece announced the holding of large naval exercises in this bay from May 1 to 9. All this time, tankers with Russian oil are forced to stand nearby,” the expert notes.
It is currently known that the warning about the ban on the movement of vessels was originally due to expire on May 9, but was extended.
As previously reported by USM, Greek shipowners, who recently left the list of “war sponsors” from National Agency on Corruption Prevention, continue to transport Russian oil, in particular, to EU ports.
