Poland refuses to regulate prices for Ukrainian grain

The Ministry of Agriculture of Poland will not introduce reference prices for Ukrainian grain. According to officials, this is against EU rules, writes Polish media Farmer.

The introduction of reference prices, according to the ministry, would lead to a drop in Polish grain exports and an increase in its surplus on the domestic market. It would also stimulate the import of grain from Ukraine and other countries.

Previously, the Polish Association of Grain Producers (PZPRZ) proposed to establish a state levy on importers of Ukrainian grain, based on the base price. This price should correspond to the average of the previous year, the average price of the Matif exchange or “another price accepted by the ministry”. PZPRZ also proposed to oblige importers who sell Ukrainian grain in Poland at a price lower than the reference price to pay the difference.
