After medical and psychological rehabilitation, the defenders of Zmiinyi returned to Odesa to their relatives and friends.

This was reported in the Southern Regional Office of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

The defenders of Zmiinyi Island, who were captured more than two years ago, have finally returned home to their relatives and friends after treatment and rehabilitation.

The exchange of prisoners of war took place on May 31, and in a month and a half the heroes arrived in their native land.

“During this time, the border guards underwent the necessary course of medical and psychological support on the basis of departmental sanatoriums in order to quickly return to a full-fledged life and professional duties,” the message reads.

The heroes of Gennadii Kornienko, Serhiy Bushynkin, Mark Divushchak and Serhiy Tushenko were met by border guards, relatives, and townspeople on the Izmailskyi land.

“We are very happy about their return to us, to our border family. They are an example of true heroes who defended our country with great dedication and honor. We are waiting for the return of all our defenders, so that together we can continue to fight for our Victory!” – stressed Lieutenant Colonel Viktor Sapunzhi.

As previously reported by USM, on July 17, 10 Ukrainian military sailors were returned from Russian captivity. In total, 95 servicemen returned home that day.
