Ukraine sees a threat in the sale of the Port of Hamburg to MSC

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has started the case regarding the sale of shares in the port of Hamburg to the container carrier MSC.

The consideration of the case regarding the sale of the share of the port to the Mediterranean Shipping Company was started at the end of July, AMKU reported.

According to the Committee, the agreement, under certain conditions, may lead to the monopolization of the container cargo transshipment market within the Odesa port. This is the basis for banning concentrations. Therefore, the Committee found grounds for an in-depth study of the state of competition and analysis of the impact of concentrations on the product markets of Ukraine.

Also, the AMCU has started consideration of the case of concerted actions, which are directly related to the implementation of these concentrations.

It will be recalled that earlier the municipality of Hamburg and the shipping company MSC announced cooperation plans, according to which the Swiss company will become a shareholder of the logistics operator HHLA.

MSC and the municipality of Hamburg later together acquired more than 92% of the shares in the logistics company Hamburger Hafen und Logistik Aktiengesellschaft (HHLA).
