The Russians placed a new gas processing platform near the Arctic LNG 2 berth
The LNG production platform was towed away from Murmansk, however, it is not known whether it will be launched due to the sanctions.
The Russians have placed an additional gas processing platform on the Hyda Peninsula, where the Arctic LNG 2 project is located. This was reported by Gospodarka Morska.
The platform with a height of more than 110 meters and a load of 640,000 tons left Bilokaminka near Murmansk on July 25, where it was built.
It took her three weeks to cover 2,000 kilometers of stormy Arctic waters. The platform is currently located in the port of Utrienna on the western coast of the Hydan Peninsula. It was placed near the sister LNG processing platform. The Russians are also completing the third.
However, Western experts are not sure that the platform will be launched as planned. This is due to the fact that the sanctions against Russia due to the full-scale invasion of Ukraine significantly slowed down the project.
Barents Observer analysts even suggest that these three gas processing platforms, as well as the 400-meter Saam tanker, which was supposed to act as a transshipment hub for gas, will simply be abandoned by the Russians. All because, according to reports from local sources, there is a shortage of workers both at the Arctic LNG 2 project and in Bilokamintsi, where the platforms were built.
According to local residents, there are practically no workers at the plant. The company is terminating contracts with employees, and the shipyard near Murmansk will be abandoned at any time – only a small group of specialists will remain in place to ensure the functionality of equipment and industrial facilities.
The day before, USM wrote that the US Ministry of Finance imposed sanctions against gas carriers associated with the Arctic LNG 2 project.
