On Desna, they began to localize the pollution that came from the Seim River
The State Water Agency, the State Ecoinspection, local authorities and the State Emergency Service are involved in the rescue of flora and fauna poisoned by the Russians.
On the Desna River in the Chernihiv region, the absorption of pollutants and the saturation of the water with oxygen began. This was reported to the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine.
According to scientists’ forecasts, measures to saturate the water with oxygen and apply activated sludge should absorb the polluting organic matter that enters the Desna from the Seim River and prevent fish plague.
“In total, 10 tons of activated sludge were imported from Bilotserkivsky waterworks. Thank you KOVA for your help. We will observe and monitor the state of the water on a permanent basis, especially in places where active sludge is introduced, in order to follow the dynamics,” commented Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, a representative of the Ministry of Environment and Rural Affairs.
As of now, there is a decrease in pollution concentrations on the Seim River in the Sumy and Chernihiv regions. In the city of Baturyn, experts continue to collect dead fish and bury them in appropriate places. So, more than 11 tons of dead fish have already been collected in Sumy region.
Specialists caught 500 kg of dead fish on the Desna River in the Sosnytskyi community of the Koryukiv district. In total, almost 6 tons of fish poisoned by the Russians were collected in Chernihiv Oblast.
No water pollution or loss of biological resources was detected within Kyiv region. To prevent secondary pollution of the Desna, scientists will install barrier nets for catching dead fish.
It will be recalled that, starting from August 14, the Russians caused large-scale pollution of the Seim River. As a result of pollution, fish died en masse. The pollution immediately spread throughout the water area of the Seim River within the Sumy region and reached Chernihiv region. Black water, the smell of rot, ammonia and dead fish were recorded, in particular, near the city of Baturyn.
