The quality of water in the river Seim in Sumy region is getting worse

Scientists record the worst indicators of water quality in the area between the settlements of Prudy and Mutyn.

Water quality in the river Seim continues to deteriorate in Sumy region. The probable source of pollution is still located on the territory of Russia, the press service of the Ministry of Environment reported.

The worst indicators are recorded in the area between the villages of Prudy and Mutyn. Chemical consumption of oxygen compared to the previous day decreased by 29 units. Now it is 112 mg per cubic decimeter near the village. Ponds, and 102 mg per cubic decimeter near the village. Mutin.

At the same time, dissolved oxygen within this area increased to 0.14-0.34 mg per cubic decimeter. Ammonium nitrogen is within normal limits.

The water quality of the Seim River is improving in Chernihiv region and Kyiv region. In the Chernihiv region, all the investigated indicators are within the normal limits — except for manganese near the city of Baturyn, here it exceeds the norm by 1.2 times.

At the Brovary water intake point, the chemical consumption of oxygen is 32.02 mg per cubic decimeter, with a norm of 30 mg per cubic decimeter. Dissolved oxygen is normal.

At the water intake point of the city of Kyiv, the chemical consumption of oxygen is 20.76 mg per cubic decimeter. Dissolved oxygen is within 6.02 mg per cubic decimeter, with a norm of at least 4 milligrams per cubic decimeter.

No excesses in the content of pesticides, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds, heavy metals, or fish deaths were detected.

It will be recalled that, starting from August 14, the Russians caused large-scale pollution of the Seim river. As a result of pollution, fish died en masse. The pollution immediately spread throughout the water area of the Seim River within the Sumy region and reached Chernihiv region.

The day before, USM wrote that it will take 2 to 3 years to restore the ecosystem of the poisoned river.
