UN: wheat and insurance prices increased due to attacks on Ukrainian ports
As a result of Russian attacks on the port infrastructure of Ukraine, prices for wheat and export insurance have risen.
This was stated by the UN Assistant Secretary General for Europe, Central Asia and America, Myroslav Encha, at a briefing in the UN Security Council.
According to him, Russian attacks on Ukrainian Black Sea ports have resumed in recent weeks.
As a result of shelling, six civilian ships were damaged, as well as grain infrastructure in the ports.
“As a result, in the period from September 1 to October 14, wheat prices increased by more than 6%. Prices for risk insurance for Ukrainian exporters have risen sharply, which has affected the Ukrainian agricultural sector,” added the Assistant Secretary General.
He emphasized that the stability of the export of agricultural products through the Black Sea, as before, is of crucial importance for global food security.
In particular, according to him, the UN continues to interact with Ukraine, Russia and Turkey, as well as with other interested parties in order to support the freedom and safety of navigation in the Black Sea.
As previously reported by USM, sunflower oil in the ports of Great Odesa increased by about $40/t during the week.
