Singaporean LNG carriers have come under US sanctions for their ties to the Russian Federation
The US has imposed sanctions on four Singaporean LNG companies due to their ties to the Russian gas company Novatek.
We are talking about the companies LNG Alpha Shipping, LNG Beta Shipping, LNG Delta Shipping and LNG Gamma Shipping, writes Splash 24/7.
According to the US State Department, these Singaporean companies are the majority owners of New Transshipment FZE, a subsidiary of Novatek based in the United Arab Emirates.
These four companies are the registered owners of the gas carriers North Air, North Mountain, North Way and North Sky – vessels that were previously recognized as part of the so-called “shadow fleet” of Russia.
“In an attempt to circumvent sanctions on Russia’s renewed Arctic LNG-2 project, Russian companies have made efforts to procure used LNG tankers, mostly through shell companies in third-country jurisdictions, to compensate for the critical shortage of available Arctic LNG-2 tankers, – says the statement of the US State Department.
As previously reported by USM, the Russian “Arctic LNG-2” was left without key suppliers of tankers.
