The court sentenced one of the CO of the Ternopil corvette for treason
The commander of the missile and artillery combat unit of the military unit of the Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces was found guilty of treason and desertion.
The court sentenced him to 15 years in prison, the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the Defense of the Southern Region reports.
The man served on the anti-submarine corvette “Ternopil” as the commander of the missile and artillery combat unit.
Prosecutors proved in court that in 2014, during the occupation of Crimea and Sevastopol, the convict betrayed his military oath. He refused to perform his military service duties in the Armed Forces and went over to the side of the enemy.
In the future, he served in the military as the commander of the large landing craft “Cesar Kunikov” of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation with the military rank of “captain lieutenant”, which took an active part in the armed aggression against Ukraine.
“In particular, this ship transported both equipment and weapons, landing troops, as well as military cargo in the Black Sea. In February 2024, the VDK “Cesar Kunikov” was sunk near Alupka in the Black Sea,” the message reads.
In connection with the hiding of the convicted person in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceedings was carried out in the order of a special pre-trial investigation (in absentia) by the investigators of the State Investigation Bureau, located in Mykolaiv.
