Ukrainian Marines Receive Modified Swedish Gruppbat Boats
Ukrainian marines received new Swedish Gruppbat boats, which were modified for the needs of the Ukrainian Navy.
The 15th separate marine support regiment was equipped with new Swedish Gruppbat boats, which were modified for the needs of the Ukrainian Navy, reports “Militarnyi”.
Gruppbat boats, which arrived as aid from the Swedish government, received additional equipment – protective sides and a roof to ensure safety during operations. The military is actively training in their use to perform landing transport tasks.
The Ukrainian Navy said that the boats have a low draft, which allows them to enter any shore, and high maneuverability. Gruppbat is capable of transporting up to eight fully equipped soldiers who can quickly disembark and begin performing combat missions.
Technical characteristics
• The draft of the boat is only 0.3 m, which allows it to operate in shallow bays.
• Engine power is 230 hp, maximum speed is 30 knots.
• The boat is designed to transport personnel over short distances and has no weapons, since it is not designed for direct combat.
In November, the Ukrainian Navy also received Swedish CB90 high-speed assault boats. These armored vessels can transport up to 21 paratroopers in full equipment or cargo weighing up to 4.5 tons, which significantly expands the capabilities of naval units.
The supply of Gruppbat and CB90 boats is part of military assistance to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities in the face of Russian aggression.
Earlier, USM reported that Australia will transfer 14 high-maneuverability naval boats to Ukraine.
