Trump administration plans to lift LNG export moratorium
The transition team of the new US President Donald Trump is working on an order to lift the moratorium on issuing licenses for LNG exports.
The lifting of restrictions is expected to be part of Trump’s broader energy strategy, which includes supporting the development of traditional energy sources, enkorr reports with reference to Bloomberg.
According to Bloomberg sources, the executive order may force the US Department of Energy to accelerate the review of applications for LNG exports or resume the permitting process in accordance with the updated energy policy.
The plans also include the implementation of Trump’s campaign promises to expand drilling on federal lands and in waters, as well as the cancellation of new environmental regulations for power plants that run on fossil fuels.
The Biden administration in January temporarily suspended the issuance of new permits for LNG exports to countries that are not US free trade partners. This decision was motivated by the need to assess the impact of increased exports on the economy, climate and national security. It is expected that the results of the study on these aspects may be published in the coming days.
