Turkish company that builds corvettes for Ukraine will build ships for NATO country
Portugal has signed an agreement with Turkey to build two ships for its Navy.
Turkey and Portugal have signed a historic agreement to build two ships for the Portuguese Navy. This was reported by TRT Haber.
This is the first time that Turkey will supply warships to a NATO and EU member state. The general contractor for the project was the Turkish company STM Defense Technologies Engineering and Trade Inc, which also builds corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy.
The contract signing ceremony took place in Lisbon. The Turkish side noted that this agreement is an important achievement for the Turkish defense industry, as it opens up new prospects for cooperation with NATO and EU countries.
According to company representatives, the contract with Portugal demonstrates increasing confidence in Turkish shipbuilding and its competitiveness in the international market.
Earlier, Turkey announced when the corvette “Hetman Ivan Vyhovskyi” will be transferred to Ukraine.
