The average price of Ukrainian exports has been decreasing for three consecutive years

The price of Ukrainian exports has been decreasing over the past three years, despite the growth in volume and value.

The average price of Ukrainian exports has continued to decline since 2022, when it was $443 per ton. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Economy Taras Kachka, Interfax-Ukraine reports.

In 2023, the price decreased to $361 per ton, and in 2024 it fell to $318 per ton, although the total weight and value of exports increased.

“According to my understanding and assumption, the greatest negative impact was due to the fact that we had the largest decrease in rolled metal exports,” Kachka commented.

In 2022, the total value of Ukraine’s exports amounted to $44.2 billion, and its weight was 99.8 million tons ($443/ton). In 2023, the value of exports decreased to $36.2 billion, while the weight increased to 100.3 million tons ($361/ton). In 2024, the total value of exports increased by 13.2% to $41.7 billion, and the weight increased by 23.6% to 131.2 million tons, but the average export price still continued to fall, dropping to $318 per ton.

Kachka recalled that in 2021, when Ukraine reached record export volumes, the most balanced trade was also observed. The deficit in trade in goods was offset by a surplus in the services sector. The trade representative noted that this year can be considered a kind of benchmark for how the Ukrainian economy functioned.

The Deputy Minister of Economy also emphasized that the Ukrainian economy is extremely open, which is confirmed by the share of international trade in GDP. According to him, the Ministry of Economy considers international trade as a key element of post-war recovery.

Separately, he noted that export figures could change due to the closure of Ukrainian ports, especially in 2022, when this led to a sharp reduction in exports of metallurgical products, in particular iron ore.

Earlier, USM reported that Ukraine exported almost 5 million tons of agricultural products in February.
