Russian warship Sparta sets sail for Tartus again

The company’s sanctioned vessel was involved in transporting cargo for the Russian military contingent in Syria.

The infamous Sparta (IMO: 9268710) left the port of Baltiysk, in the Kaliningrad region, on June 28 at approximately 17:50. This was reported by Kateryna Yaresko, a journalist for the SeaKrime project of the Myrotvorets center.

The crew indicated in AIS that they were supposedly going to Egypt. However, as the expert noted, the real port of destination is Tartus (Syria).

USM previously wrote that the Russian Federation is trying to maintain a presence in Syria even after the fall of the Assad regime. Despite the fact that the new government refused to extend the lease of a military base to the Russians, the Kremlin is deliberately delaying the withdrawal of its equipment and personnel.

USM also recently reported that Russia may lose the route for exporting stolen grain due to a court case with Syria.
