NATO ships detained a Russian vessel in Swedish waters

The Swedish Coast Guard and two NATO ships have launched a security operation after the Russian fishing vessel Mechanic Stepanov found itself in the Öresund Strait near Sweden.

This is reported by Postimees.

The Russian vessel encountered engine problems in Swedish territorial waters on Saturday, September 13. It began to drift towards Denmark.

It is worth noting that the Mechanic Stepanov was launched in 2025 – despite this, the vessel also experienced a power outage.

Danish and British warships accompanied the Russian ship. The Danish Navy confirmed this to the Danish TV channel TV2, but did not provide additional details about the operation.

Earlier, USM reported that the Polish Foreign Minister had called on NATO to restrict the passage of Russian vessels in the Baltic region.
