Oil leak detected in Pivdennyi port due to Russian attacks

As a result of massive Russian attacks on the infrastructure of the port of Pivdennyi in the Odesa region, a leak of vegetable oil was recorded in the water area.
This was reported by the USPA.
For the first two days after the attack, the port was under continuous shelling. Because of this, work to localize the leak could only be carried out partially – exclusively during breaks between air alerts, in compliance with the requirements of safety rules for personnel.
During this period, specialists carried out a phased closure of the water area with boom barriers. After the security situation stabilized, the boom barriers were installed in full.
Specialized vessels for collecting pollutants were involved in the work.
The USPA emphasized that we are talking about vegetable oil, which is an organic substance and is subject to natural biological decomposition. The USPA, together with all the services involved, is taking all possible measures to localize and prevent further spread of pollution, taking into account the current security and weather conditions.
USM previously reported that sunflower prices in Ukraine dropped sharply after the Russian strike on the port of Pivdennyi.
