US Senators Meet with Port Leaders During Visit to Odesa

For the first time since 2022, US senators visited Odesa, and also held meetings with the heads of ports and maritime security in the Odesa region.

This was reported in the US Senate, writes European Pravda.

US Senators Jeanne Shaheen, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Sheldon Whitehouse, Chris Coons (D-Delaware), and Richard Blumenthal visited Odesa, where they reaffirmed bipartisan support for Ukraine in the US Congress and among the American people.

This is the first visit of a Senate delegation to Odesa since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion in 2022.

Members of the delegation emphasized the urgent need for Congress to impose tough sanctions against Russia and provide additional support to Ukraine in order to force Putin to sit at the negotiating table.

During the visit, the delegation met with representatives of the Ukrainian government and military, Ukrainian border guards, port and maritime security leaders in the Odesa region, and American agricultural and logistics companies operating in Ukraine.

Senator Jeanne Shaheen noted that her bipartisan bill to combat Russia’s shadow fleet and its Chinese proxies has already received broad support in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“This bill is ready for consideration in the Senate as soon as we return next week, and will be passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. This will send a clear signal to Putin that time is not on his side,” the senator said.
