USPA and JASPERS discussed port modernization in accordance with EU standards

A meeting of representatives of the USPA and JASPERS was held in Kyiv, during which they discussed current priorities, the work of the industry, fleet renewal and port modernization.

This was reported by the head of the Sea Ports Administration of Ukraine Mykola Kravchuk.

According to him, the scale of port infrastructure restoration is systematically growing along with the need for international support and high-quality investment solutions.

“That is why I welcomed representatives of JASPERS, the advisory program of the European Investment Bank (EIB), to Kyiv. During the meeting, I outlined the work of the USPA in the conditions of a full-scale war and the key challenges that the port industry faces daily,” the head of the USPA said.

As of March 24, almost 750 port infrastructure facilities and 156 civilian vessels have been damaged. The total number of injured or killed in Ukrainian ports since the beginning of the war is 240 people.

He added that these losses directly determine the current priorities and format of the industry’s work. Among the key tasks: protection and restoration of infrastructure, fleet renewal and implementation of modern digital solutions.

“We discussed approaches to the restoration and modernization of ports in accordance with European standards with JASPERS experts. The focus is on the preparation of investment projects that can be implemented immediately after the stabilization of the security situation. JASPERS confirmed its readiness to support the USPA in forming an investment portfolio focused on the long-term sustainability of the industry,” Mykola Kravchuk emphasized.

It should be noted that the parties agreed to begin joint work on the analysis and prioritization of projects to attract international financing.

As previously reported by USM, Russia has attacked the ports of the Odesa region more than 180 times since the beginning of the year.
