Towing operation for damaged Russian gas tanker fails in Mediterranean Sea

A Russian gas tanker under sanctions, hit by drones in the Mediterranean Sea, could not be towed to the coast of Libya.

This was reported by the Libyan Search and Rescue Coordination Center.

The center warned ships in the region that the operation to tow the Arctic Metagaz gas tanker failed due to severe weather conditions.

The incident was caused by a break in the cable connecting the vessel to the tug. Due to the weather, the latter cannot return to the place to repeat the operation.

All ships and naval units in the vicinity are asked to avoid this area and stay at a distance of at least 10 nautical miles from the site. They are also recommended to report the detection of the gas tanker or any changes in its condition (leaks, smoke, emissions, etc.).

Earlier, USM reported that footage of a Russian gas tanker hit in the Mediterranean Sea appeared on the network.
