Ukraine will lead the EU Strategy for the Danube Region

Ukraine became the first non-EU country to assume the presidentship of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region.

Ukraine officially takes the lead in the European Union Strategy for the Danube region for 2022. The handover ceremony took place on October 27th in Bratislava during the annual Forum for EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). This was reported by the Ukrinform edition.

Ukraine will preside the Strategy for a year – til November 2022 – and will take part in organization of the European Union’s regional policy at the level of the member states.

Earlier, during an online briefing, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba, noted: “Ukraine will become the first state, which, being a non-EU member, will coordinate the activities of 14 countries of the Danube River Basin and the implementation of EU strategic initiatives in the region.”

Reference: The Danube Strategy is a platform and action plan for cooperation of 14 countries. They interact in the areas of shipping, environmental protection, in particular, aquatic ecosystems, including the conservation of living water resources. The Ukrainian part of the Strategy includes Odesa, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi and Transcarpathian regions.
