Yet another US Navy destroyer headed for the Black Sea

The next flagship of the US Navy, USS Mount Whitney, is heading for the Black Sea.

The ship will coordinate the actions of the fleets of the United States and its NATO allies during joint military operations in the Black and Mediterranean Seas. This was reported by the press service of the US Navy’s Sixth Fleet.

Earlier, on October 30th, the USS Porter (DDG-78) destroyer entered the Black Sea region.

Reference: The US Sixth Fleet is responsible for the Mediterranean and nearby Atlantic waters, especially the approaches to Gibraltar. Since 2005, the fleet has expanded its area of ​​operations to the coast of Africa, including the Gulf of Guinea.

The flagship USS Mount Whitney is the second Blue Ridge-class command ship. Participated in operations in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean, Caribbean and Indian Ocean. Since 2005, the ship has served in the US Sixth Fleet, based in the Italian port of Gaeta.
