A new package of sanctions awaits russian federation in October

EU foreign ministers agreed to prepare new sanctions against russia and to increase the supply of weapons to Ukraine.

EU High Representative for Foreign Policy Josep Borrell talked about the panic and desperation of moscow, commenting on putin’s statement regarding the annexation of Ukrainian territories and the threat of using nuclear weapons to protect russia. This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to Reuters.

“It is obvious that putin is trying to destroy Ukraine,” Borrell told reporters after the ministerial meeting.

After a briefing by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, the ministers agreed to instruct their teams to prepare an eighth package of sanctions that will target “more relevant sectors of the russian economy and continue to target those responsible for the war of aggression in Ukraine,” Borrell said.

EU ministers will hold their next official meeting in mid-October, when the sanctions package can be formalized.

Government officials also agreed to increase arms supplies to Ukraine. Borrell declined to elaborate on the type of sanctions or military support, but said he believed there would be “unanimous” support across the bloc for the new measures.
