Russian Orthodox Church buys buildings near NATO naval basis
In recent years, the russian Orthodox Church has acquired a number of facilities on the coast of Norway, which are located near important NATO military bases.
The community in Bergen, which is connected to the Moscow Patriarchate, settled near one of the most important facilities of the Norwegian armed forces, the Haakonsvern naval base.
Haakonsvern is the main base of the Royal Norwegian Navy and the largest naval base in Northern Europe. Frigates and submarines are stationed here, writes European Truth with reference to Dagbladet.
The religious community has owned the building 3 kilometers from Haakonsvern for 5 years. It offers a view of the approach of the ships and a view of most of the base.
Over the next four years, the russian Orthodox Church acquired several more properties in the Norwegian coastal region of Rugalann. In particular, we are talking about a building in Stavanger – within walking distance of the headquarters of the NATO Joint Battle Center. Another facility is located in Finnmark, a few kilometers from the border with russia
Such properties can be a problem because they can be used for more than just religious purposes. If you imagine the whole range of possible measures, you can intercept and eavesdrop on signals, control drones from there, etc. There is a wide range of geodetic activities and possible failures that can be arranged from such a base, said Norwegian researcher Alpha Sefland Winge.
It is not necessary to talk about “peaceful” intentions in such proximity to naval facilities, given russia’s propensity for “coincidences”. Especially since the russian clergy actively supports the russian war of aggression in Ukraine, and our country has already introduced separate sanctions against Patriarch Kirill and other representatives of the russian Orthodox Church.
