Restoration of destroyed granaries in Ukraine was estimated at $1,06 billion

The restoration of the destroyed granaries, which suffered due to russian aggression, is estimated at a minimum of $1.06 billion.

The total capacity of destroyed granaries reaches 6.5 million tons of produced products, and the capacity of damaged ones exceeds 2.9 million tons of simultaneous storage capacities. This is stated in the KSE Institute report, which covers the period from February 24 to September 1, 2022.

The report states that the assessment methodology involves the use of indirect methods, statistical data and certain assumptions, in particular regarding the extent of damage in areas where hostilities are still active, physical inspection of which is limited due to hazards (such as landmines), or which are in territories occupied by the aggressor.

“To calculate the value indicators of damaged and/or destroyed assets, averaged values are used, calculated on the basis of data from the State Statistics Service, relevant ministries, Prozorro tenders, etc., and correction factors according to the level of damage to objects. To calculate the value indicators of damaged or destroyed assets of large commercial objects, identified institutions, information from financial statements, current as of the last available date, is used,” the report explained.
