The UN has chartered a ship to transport russian fertilizers to African countries.

“This is the first of many ships that will transport russian fertilizers to African countries,” roszMI quoted the director of the UN World Food Program, David Beasley, as saying.

The first batch of 20,000 tons will be shipped next week and the ship will leave the Netherlands on November 21. Fertilizers are exported to Malawi.

The UN reports that fertilizer is important for farmers on the African continent, where the close of the planting season is fast approaching.

“Lacks of fertilizer this planting season will affect future harvests, potentially worsening the continent’s already dire hunger statistics,” the organization said.
