UN: in the near future it will not be possible to include the ports of Mykolayiv Region to the “grain initiative”
The “Grain Initiative” will not be expanded any time soon due to the addition of new shipping ports.
“The more grain that gets into the world, the better, but I don’t think it can be done immediately,” said UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths.
Griffiths added that he does not see the possibility of implementing this proposal in the near future.
Earlier it was reported that Ukraine is in favor of expanding the grain export initiative. As Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated during a joint briefing with UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffith, despite the war, the export of Ukrainian agricultural products remains an effective tool for combating the global food crisis.
“Ukraine is in favor of expanding the grain export initiative to our other ports. In particular, the ports of Mykolaiv and Olvia in the Mykolaiv region. We count on the support of our partners in this matter, in particular the support of the UN,” said Shmyhal.
